Planting Flowers

Planting Flowers

On Tuesday the 25th of October St Anne’s School walked down to the old nugget factory which was damaged in the February Earthquake and was later pulled down.
When we got down there we met a man called Andrew who told us what we would be doing. He gave each person a spice shaker with sawdust and wild flower seeds in it and we found our own area and sprinkled the seeds.
We then went and got into pairs and got an old sack and filled it with mushroom compost and sprinkled this over the seeds.
We hope it grows into a beautiful place where people can go and enjoy.

Solar Ovens

Last week, Room 4 carried out an experiment about Solar Ovens. This is how we made Solar Ovens: with a pizza box, gladwrap, tinfoil, black paper, scissors and glue or tape. First we had to write our plan down on how we guessed how it would work. we then got into groups of 3. Then we put the box together with all the materials provided. Next we put the ovens in the sun so that the bread could cook. When it was cooking some of the ovens got blown over and the bread fell out and the stick fell over and the flap closed. At two thirty we went outside to get the bread to see if it was cooked, unluckily only one side of the bread was cooked and the other side was still as plain as normal bread. We then put our ovens inside and cut the bread into three even pieces for each of the three people in the group. We had a choice to put either jam, apricot jam, marmite or nothing. In the end we all enjoyed the bread/toast and thought that solar ovens were a good idea.

First Holy Communion

On Sunday the 2nd of October we had our First Holy Communion.
We all had to get up early to get dressed in white. Then everyone started to arrive from our school and some kids  from different schools. We counted but there was only ten children, one girl was missing!!!  We kept looking at the door then the girl arrived. Our Mums and Dads took lots photos of us. Finally we went into church when we went in we felt like we were famous because everyone was taking photos of us. When we went up to the Priest we felt that God was with us. After Mass we went in to the hall to celebrate, there was a big feast we felt so special. We really enjoyed our day. We would like to thank our parents and every one who helped
