Rehua Marae

Rehua Marae By Bernie On Monday 17th of March, the whole school went to Rehua Marae.First we hopped off the bus(there were 3 buses) then drove to the Marae. We got there and then got called in.The Lady called us in and then Mrs Parker replied back.We walked slowly over the bridge. When we finished the call (Karanga)the lady told us to take off our shoes. Then we went inside the Whare Nui.We sat on the chairs.Daniel and MrC said a little speech to introduce us to each other. We did a Hongi and at the same time we sang songs to each other. We had a little talk about things around the Marae and where the toilets are. After we had a Prayer for our food(kai). We went out-side to go in to the kitchen to eat and have a little drink. Then that was finished we went out-side and played. My friends and I played Tag.After we played for about ... half an hour,we went back in-side and then Mrs Parker talked about the Marae for a little while and talked to us about the AMAZING art work and the carvings on the walls. Then our Visit was over then we all said our Good-byes then hopped back on to our buses then went back to school. We had a great time.

Term 1 2014 Class Newsletter

Dear Parents/Caregivers of Room 4 Students,

Welcome back to another school year! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday. I look forward to meeting all the new faces in Room 4 this year.

This letter is to just let you know a little about what will be happening this term, however more specific information will follow in the weekly School Newsletter and on our blog. (http://stannes104.blogspot.co.nz)

Homework will start in week two this term and will be handed out on Mondays and returned on Fridays.  Homework is designed to have 15 minutes minimum a night spent on it. Homework consists of 10 basic facts to be learnt each night, 10 spelling words and a Reading Log to be filled out daily. This homework is in line with current professional theories that children should not be overwhelmed by large quantities of homework instead they should complete the basics of reading, spelling and basic facts well.

Topic
‘Identity’ : looking at children’s cultural make up. Investigating New Zealand and other countries who make up our class dynamics, their culture and history.
Writing
Explanation and Recount Writing.
Maths
Number Knowledge and Measurement.
R.E
Prayer and Church Strand.
P.E
Striking and fielding Skills, and Cross Country Training.

Starting week 8 we will start our swimming programme for 2014. Children must remember to bring their togs and a towel on these days. There will be a more informative note on swimming to follow.

Thank you to all those who have sent their children with named stationery and hats, can these all please be here by Friday.

Library day is Thursday this year and it would be a great help if children remember to bring their books back on this day.

I hope this answers some of your questions. If you have any other queries please feel free to contact me at school for an appointment or e-mail at ryan@stannes.co.nz

I look forward to an exciting 2014, working with the fabulous children in Room 4.

Yours sincerely,

Ryan McInnes
